The Tropicario Project was developed for the Bogota Botanical Garden Competition.

The participation in this architecture competition provided an opportunity to become sensitive with the environment by designing a greenhouse in the existing Botanical Garden of Bogota. A light weight modular system was parametrically modeled and dimensioned to maximize structural and environmental performance. An innovative envelope was designed to respond to efficiently use passive techniques to provide proper conditions for each space (Productive Agriculture, Desert, Amazon, Jungle and Temporary Exhibition). The parametric system proved to be an effective design model that created a homogenic aesthetic yet extremely flexible in its deployment. Beyond meeting the specific needs of the program, this place was envisioned to become a place where both, casual visitors and scientific researchers feel compelled to further study the amazing amount of biodiversity found in Colombia.

The Tropicario Proposal was developed by a team that was composed of Aaron Brakke, Diego Chavarro, Andres Dejanon, and Julian Ardila. The offices of Whiteknee/Alternative Futures and Tekten supported the development and created renderings.
