The United International Pictures project was an ambitious undertaking. We worked with leadership to reimagine workflows and spaces for staff. Additionally, we created a unique spatial experience for visitors who come to view upcoming feature films.
"Cinema is not only about making people dream. It's about changing things and making people think. - Nadine Labaki".
Alternative Futures (Whiteknee) developed a unique physical space that helps visitors transition from the urban streetscape of Bogota to the other worlds that are encountered in the films projected in the UIP theatre. The office is divided into public space and private office space. The private space branches off to the left and seamlessly cloaks circulation and gathering spaces.
We were also asked to develop an intervention for a company whose industry has increasingly been shifted into the digital era. UIP leadership asked for a renovation to literally and metaphorically break down barriers between departments and open up the office that had been compartmentalized. The business of advertising and distributing films has become radically transformed in the 21st century. Film as a physical medium has nearly ceased to exist and traditional print media is only a ghost of what is was a decade ago. Distributed networks tackle collaboration with a flattened hierarchy, but require different phyical spaces and technologies for team meetings. The solution for UIP was to consolidate the spaces of individual workstations and create a variety of conference rooms. The project was strategically managed to minimize disruption of everyday activities during the construction process.
